Ray Lamar, a native of Detroit, Michigan, emerged from a middle-class family in the Jefferson/Chalmers area, where he grew up as the youngest of eight children. With a significant age gap between him and his siblings, Ray’s childhood often resembled that of an only child. He spent his formative years engaging in neighborhood basketball games and racing bikes with friends, all while nurturing a growing passion for music.
His journey into the world of music began in middle school, where he found inspiration in artists like LL Cool J, Rob Base, and the Beastie Boys. Fuelled by this passion, Ray started writing rhymes and showcasing his skills as an MC in talent shows while attending Cass Technical High School in Detroit.
Ray furthered his education at Wilberforce University in Ohio, where he earned a degree in Communications. Later, he pursued his MBA in Accounting from Grand Canyon University in Arizona.
While building a successful career in finance spanning over a decade, Ray’s love for music never waned. In 2014, he decided to merge his financial expertise with his musical talents, venturing into DJing. Initially, it was small gatherings for friends and family, but during the pandemic-induced lockdowns of 2020, Ray invested in professional equipment and refined his skills.
As restrictions lifted, Ray found himself in high demand, performing at various events, from upscale venues like The Roostertail in Detroit to intimate backyard gatherings. What sets Ray apart is his commitment to providing a clean and inclusive musical experience. With meticulous editing, he ensures that his performances are devoid of any potentially offensive content, making his music accessible to audiences of all ages.
In 2022, Ray’s talent and dedication were recognized when he triumphed in his first DJ battle in Detroit, winning over the crowd with his electrifying performance.
Outside of music, Ray is deeply rooted in his faith and values honesty and integrity in both his personal and professional life. He spent three years operating a web-based radio station, showcasing unsigned artists and providing them with a platform for exposure. His dedication to clean entertainment and ethical business practices underscores his commitment to service excellence.
In his spare time, Ray enjoys appearing as an extra on television shows, including a brief stint on the sitcom “Detroiters.”
Ray Lamar’s ultimate goal is to secure a residency at a local club or bar, where he can continue to share his passion for music with his community.
